2026Together as One:
The Journey Continues

Together as One - started in February 2023 - is an effort to centralize information about the various Black History Month plans of Western New York cultural organizations. Each will hold their own programs or events throughout the month of February. Please see below to learn more!

TAO 2026 Sign + Poster.jpg

This idea is the brainchild of Clifford Bell, Chairman of the Buffalo African American Museum. The plan is to bring the community together as one to observe and celebrate the contributions of Black and African Americans. Now, more than ever, we need to come together as neighbors, community, and a nation.

Special thanks to all our partners and supporters who contributed to the “Together As One” 2026 Black History Month program, and this coordinated effort to increase education of our local Black History.

TR Site Round Logo.png

Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site

The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site is an affiliate site of the National Park Service. The TR Site's mission is to advance Theodore Roosevelt’s legacy of leadership by inspiring civic engagement and preserving the site of his unexpected 1901 inauguration in Buffalo, New York, which sparked the birth of the modern presidency. The TR Site’s regular house tour discusses the events that led up to and took place on the day that TR took the Presidential Oath of Office, and touches on TR’s legacy. In particular, the tour discusses TR’s relationship with Booker T. Washington who advised the President on matters related to race. On the day TR took the oath at 641 Delaware Ave, Buffalo, he also sent a message to Washington inviting him to dine at the White House with his family, an infamous event that provoked an outpouring of condemnation from white politicians and press in the American South.
